The Penn State Page
As a Penn State alumnus, I was thrilled when my nephew, Sean McHugh, accepted a full football scholarship to play for Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions. He was freshman this year and played tight end and on special teams. On November 3rd, Deb, Mike, Lorri and I headed up from Baltimore to Happy Valley for the PSU-Iowa game the next day. There we met my sister Jeannie and her colorful and highly entertaining husband, Kevin McHugh. As parents of a player, they were able to secure great seats for the game as well as hotel rooms, dinner reservations and, most importantly, a personal audience with Coach Paterno. Here are a few photos from this adventure.
From left to right, the aforementioned Mr. McHugh and sister Jeannie, the whole crowd and Jeannie and Mike. The middle photo was taken at the Whiskers Lounge in the world-famous Nittany Lion Inn, where we met several players and recruits' parents and some of the coaches, including receivers coach and former NFL star, Kenny Jackson.
The next day, though moving a little slowly, we were up early and tailgating. To the left is the group, in the middle is the master tailgater himself and daughter Deborah actually sitting on a tailgate.
Left to right: the group in front of Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions; Me and two great friends and fraternity brothers, Dick Anthony and Bob "Tree" Wood; Jeannie, Sam Ruhe's (No. 65) mom, and me; Diana and Dick Anthony, another great friend and fraternity bro John "Buzzy" Glantz and his son, and me.
On the left is a photo taken from our great seats. Note No. 82 in the middle of the field. The big guy in the middle picture is Sean McHugh, No. 82. If you don't know who the two guys on the right are, you don't know jack...or college football.
