Duck, Duck, Goose! That was the official name of our house. We couldn't figure out why. Judging by the decor, the owners seemed to be dog lovers but I guess you don't want to name your vacation house "Dog House" or something like that. The house was plenty big enough for all of us and we had rooms left over. It had a separate media room, a rec room with a pool table, six bedrooms, decks, a spa and a large kitchen, dining and great room area. There was a basketball hoop on the driveway next door. Jake and GPJ (grandpa Jack) in the spa. Relaxing on the deck, taken from the deck above. Getting Settled Malarie checking her email and Malarie with Deb plying her trade, Jake and Mike in the kitchen and the Fillings at the dining table. Uncle Hobble's Visit & Jakes Birthday Party Uncle Hobble was able to tear himself away from work early in the week for long enough to join us for a couple days and help celebrate Jakes birthday. Bob, Mike & Jake on the beach. The beach looked like it had taken a beating from some recent storms. The sand was sort of tan-colored and coarse as opposed to the light, fine white stuff I'm used to seeing in this area. Some miscellaneous shots. Notice Jake with the pool cue. The kid has a knack for the game and held his own with Mike and I, probably two of the best pool players you'll ever see! Here are a few from Jakes birthday. Notice the Nittany Lion hat and Chargers mini-helmet. At least he's not wearing that terrible Michigan sweatshirt. More beach scenes: Sunset Over the Sound We went out to an early dinner on Wednesday, the evening before T-day, to a place on the sound side. The sound is fairly wide in this area, two or three miles maybe.
Thanksgiving Photos on the Beach We all got dressed up, sort of, for Thanksgiving dinner, and it seemed like a good opportunity to shoot some family photos for posterity, so we did. Here they are: We had a true feast for T-day including BBQ'd turkey, green bean casserole, stuffing, etc., etc., and plenty of wine, just like the Pilgrims. Shopping at Timbuk II I think that's how they spell it. We went out on the worst (or best, depending on how well you like to shop) shopping day of the year in search of fantastic bargains. Mike and I found a fantastic bargain in the form of a friendly bar with cold beer, good food and football games on TV. The girls shopped! But then they all joined us at the bar for some r&r. No family gathering would be complete without a little poker game so we organized a Texas Hold 'em tournament with a $5 buy-in. Having perhaps watched some poker playing on TV, sunglasses and various other props were utilized in an effort to emulate some of the more colorful pro poker players. I'm not sure who Jake was going for, but it was sure hard to tell whether or not he had a good hand because we couldn't read his face. We couldn't even see it! Last Visit to the Beach It's a little over a two hour drive from Duck to Williamsburg, which we made on Saturday afternoon. It was sad leaving Duck, but we had one more evening of celebrating to look forward to.
