Revolutionary City!
It's July, 1776, and the Declaration of Independence has been approved and signed by our representatives in Philadelphia. The citizens are gathered at the capital in Williamsburg to hear it read.
"When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another..."
"....We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness..."
1776 to 1781, the war wages, Virginia's currency collapses, the citizens can barely afford to eat. The British are moving north toward Williamsburg.
April 1781, the Redcoats arrive under the command of British General Benedict Arnold.
Legions of British troops occupy the City.
General Arnold reads the rules of occupation. The citizens are not happy. They boooooo!
The troops march about in a fearsome display of power.
It was a nice afternoon.
