"Practice" camping trip to Dos Picos County Park out near Ramona

We found this camper van on RVShare and thought it night work for us to travel and camp in when we attend Ashley and Frank's wedding up near Sequoia National Park over Labor Day Weekend.

We wanted to make sure, though, so we opted for a two-night rental and drove the 20 or so miles to Dos Picos Park.

We had our Sportsmobile 4x4 camper van for many years, so van camping is something we are quite familiar with.

For instance, we know it can get might chilly out in the sticks so we brought clothes to "layer up"! We also know that a nice bottle of wine can help take the edge off the chill.

An interior view looking back from the now rear-facing driver's seat.

Monday morning dawned bright, sunny, and a lot warmer, thankfully.

We heated up some sausages, potatoes, and scrambled some eggs.

It was a nice hearty breakfast! We put OJ in empty water bottles because they fit better in little van refrigerators.

After breakfast we explored the park. Thgis structure is obviously a, um..idk, a kids climbing apparatus?

There is a fairly extensive trail system considering the limited size of the park.

There is also a pond! <-----thataway!

Ernie's trail was very nicely maintained with just enough ups and downs to make us feel like we were actually hiking. Here is an up.

Here is a down, and another up!

There is a way way up! That, I believe is the back (east) side if Mount Woodson, on top of which you can find the now world famous "Potato Chip Rock"

I think we explored all of Ernie's trails.

Back at our campsite for some r&r.

Dinner time!

Rib eye, Mexican grey squash, polenta, on a paper plate.

The vehicle was a little tight in spots and the bed was not long enough for me.

Nonetheless, I slept fairly well and awoke my usual jolly old self.

Here we are back in our driveway unloading our stuff. It was a nice little getaway but we won't be taking this van to the wedding.
