Battle Mountain Cache
GC1B03 - October 3, 2001
Battle Mountain is that small mountain which has a white cross on top on the east side of I-15 just south of Lake Hodges. It overlooks San Pasqual Valley where a battle of the Mexican-American War was fought in 1846. Rumor has it that Kit Carson was there and snuck away during the night to get reinforcements for the Americans from the garrison in San Diego. I think he went to the Gaslamp District for a beer.
This is where you should park. There is some construction but you can easily walk around it to get to the trail up the hill.
The Cache is on the left, the Cache & me in the middle and the cross that you can see from the freeway on the right.
Though hazy, the view on the left is to the southeast and the view on the right is northeast toward lake Hodges. The water level is getting pretty low. It must be time for a drought and increased water rates.
