La Jolla
Coastal La Jolla Viewpoint
GC5B0, July 2, 2001
Having other business to attend to in La Jolla this morning and since the sun was out, I thought it might be fun to look for this cache. I navigated via Thomas Bros. directly to the "trailhead". My GPS told me the prize was still 200 feet away. I hoped I had the stamina to make it. I hiked and hiked and finally after 30 seconds I broke out into the open and discovered two benches on a hill overlooking all of downtown La Jolla with great views up and down the coast. I sat down, got up, turned left, walked right to the cache, took it back to the bench and sat down. I was exhausted.
Here is the cache in all its glory on the bench.
Here is a view looking northerly towards Scripps Pier and another looking toward the middle of La Jolla
As I was sitting on the bench, three ladies went by with a GPS and I thought they must be Geocachers so I asked them if they were. (I was going to make it easy for them.) No, they were looking for the Dr. Seuss tree - a gnarled old tree the he used to sketch for illustrations in his books. They showed it to me and I took the above photos. On the left, the Dr. Seuss tree and on the right, Dr. Stork in front of it contemplating all he learned from reading Dr. Seuss.
