San Pasqual
The Breeder Cache - GCE6B
August 30th, 2001
The weather had cooled down a bit so I decided to head out to the San Pasqual Valley off Route 78 between Ramona and Escondido. This Cache, named "Breeder" was to have contained another Cache inside it called the "Larva", the idea being for a finder to take the Larva and hide it in a new position, creating a new Geocache. This was my intention and, according to www.geocaching.com , no one had visited this cache since August 8, and the Larva was present. On my way up to the top of the hill, about a 1-1/2 mile climb, I had found the Cache, Larva and all, near the 1/2 mile marker. My intention was to grab the Larva and log my find on the way down. Well, when I returned, the Larva was gone, taken by another Cacher named Vagabond during the time I hiked up the hill. Not only that, as I was leaving the Cache, a third Geocacher, Mark71mark, arrived, also planning to take the Larva! What are the chances of three people visiting the same site on a Thursday morning within one hour? Let alone a site in a remote area that hadn't been visited in three weeks. Amazing.
Anyway, here are some photos. It was a nice hike.
Here's me with the Cache saying "Huh? Where did the Larva go?"
These views were taken at the top of the hill. The road is Route 78. In the middle photo, if you look real close, the little white speck in the middle of the photo is my car.
You know you're at the end of the trail when you see the sign that says "END OF TRAIL". There is a nice overlook at the 1.36 mile marker.
