On Thursday, September 5th, we left beautiful Worthington, Minnesota and continued our trek east. After a few miles on I-90 we headed off on MN Route 16, a scenic byway which traverses the "Bluff Country", rolling hills and rivers in Southeast Minnesota. We stopped for the night in Lanesboro, a small town on the Root River and the Root River State Trail, an old railroad bed trail that runs for nearly 75 miles along the Root River.
The Sign
The Root River State Trail. We rented bikes and took a short ride Thursday afternoon and had planned on a more strenuous excursion the following morning, but unfortunately it rained! We had to load the bikes in the van and deliver them back to the rental place.
The campground was on the river and adjacent to the trail and just a short walk in to town.
