After delivering the bikes in the rain we headed southerly along the west side of the Mississippi River into Iowa on Route 28, yet another scenic byway. We made a short stop to admire the "mounds" at Effigy Mounds National Monument. The rain had stopped and it turned hot and humid, a condition that existed until this very day (September 12).

We crossed the Mississipi at Prairie du Chien and zipped accross southwest Wisconsin on US 18. Wisconsin looks just like its advertisements: green rolling hills, neat farms and lots of dairy cows. We camped at Yellowstone Lake State Park.

The next day we drove through Chicago and took these fantastic photos. We didn't spend any time there. Big cities are not on the agenda this trip.
