Bethel Inn
We decided to spend the weekend of October 12, 2002, at a hotel or motel since we had been doing a lot of camping and we were hoping to catch the Penn State-Michigan game on TV somewhere. The van does not have TV. We stumbled upon the lovely little town of Bethel, Maine, and after some serious negotiations with the desk clerk, secured a room at the world-famous Bethel Inn and Country Club.
This is what it looked like. It was within walking distance to several restaurants and sports bars, so I figured I was OK for finding a spot to view the game. As fate would have it, there was nowhere in town that had satellite and ABC chose to air the OK/TX game that day. So, we missed the game except for the end, in overtime, when ABC switched to it. It's at this point when I get some sort of strange amnesia. Penn State won, right?
Another covered bridge.
Some fall color
The Appalachian Trail passes near Bethel so we decided to take a little hike up to table rock. The hike up turned out to be steep and scary for Lorri, but after several crying episodes and let's-turn-around-and-go-backs, we finally made it to the top where the views would have been pretty spectacular if the weather had been better.
