October 16, 2002, we drove down along the coast of Maine and New Hampshire for a while and then turned inland and crossed Massachusetts and back into new York State on I-90. We turned south on Teconic State Parkway, an interesting four-lane divided road off limits to trucks. The rain continued unabated. We got to Lake Taghkanic State Park in the late afternoon and after waking the napping ranger, found a nice camping spot. It rained all night too but the sun was out in the morning and we were ready to hit the road again.
The Park; the camp site; morning coffee.
October 17, 2002. Since we needed to be in Williamsburg, VA, on the 18th, Friday, we wasted no time getting through Pennsylvania. Of course, it started raining again by mid-morning. We took a wide path around the D.C. area, not wanting to accidentally meet up with The Sniper. We started looking for a camp ground in the late afternoon and finally got off the Interstate near Hagerstown, Maryland. The first place we came to was a Yogi Bear Jellystone Park "Resort". What the heck, we figured, we were tired, it was raining (still) and we could plug in (connect to electric) and get a hot shower in the morning. It turned out to be a great spot. It even offered wireless high-speed (Wi-Fi) internet access. So we sat in the van, checked our email, updated this web site and listened to the rain on the roof.
Jellystone! The morning of October 18th.
