We made our way into Western Virginia
and headed to the Skyline Drive, which together with the Blueridge Parkway
follow the spine on the Appalachians for a few zillion beautiful miles.

A view from an overlook

We saw about a hundred deer while driving to our stopping point for
the night.

We camped near the Appalachian Trail and the next morning went for a
short stroll

There was virtually no one on the road, the skies were clear...it was
a great drive. Pictures can't capture these things.
Wine Stop!

We found Afton Winery not too far from the end of Skyline
Drive and met the owners, Tom & Shinko Corpora.

They were very nice people and the area is very bucolic
and restful. Real estate prices are going up there. I see why.
Charlottesville and Monticello

We spent Thursday night in a hotel near the "Corners" area
of Charlottesville and University of Virginia. On the left Lorri is standing
in Charlottesville's Old Main Street. On the right is the famous Rotunda at
UVA.

We had "Midday Faire" at Michie Tavern and it was an
excellent lunch of Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas and that
kind of stuff, washed down with a pint of Virginia's best.
Monticello was every bit as interesting and impressive as
I had imagined. TJ was a genius.
