We had read and heard
so much about Savannah, we had to stop and see it. We stayed one night at a
nearby State Park (Skidaway, one of the nicest we've been too, although
there were a few mosquitoes about) and one night at a motel on the Historic
District.

Many films have been made in or near Savannah. We had
lunch at the Six Pence Pub, mostly because it was the first decent looking
place we found after leaving the Visitor Center. It turns out that scenes
from "Something to Talk About" with Julia Roberts and Dennis Quaid were
filmed there.

Part of River Street. The bench that Forest Gump
didn't sit on (the actual bench is nearby). Our camp spot Wednesday night,
May 18.
We had lunch the next day at City Market Cafe, behind me
on the right.
Thursday Night

Our hotel was near the river front and River Street
happens to be loaded with restaurants and bars. It seemed like a natural
thing to do to go "exploring". The middle photo shows a huge container ship
going by. This is still a very active port. Lorri is standing in front of
the Fiddler Crab House, one or our stops. The place had raw oysters for 25
cents each!

In the middle, I'm standing in front of the Kevin Barry
Irish Pub, another stop.
At the shrimp factory we had a "Chatham Artillery Punch"
(a large snifter of mostly alcohol) and had a chat with the bartender and
some fellow Punch drinkers. That's Missy, Lorri, Sheila the bartender, and
Tim. Our last stop was the Boars Head Saloon. Actually, our last stop was
the Chart House where we had some excellent fried green tomatoes but I have
no photos of that.

Lorri is heading up the stairs to the street up above and
our hotel.
