We left Savannah and went south
on I-95 into Florida where we turned right on I-10 and headed west. I-10
goes straight (sort of) to LA. We'll pick up I-8, which takes you to San
Diego, in Arizona.Usually we travel off the
Interstates but we're headed home now and want to get there by the end of
the week. Getting there by the end of the week entails putting some serious
miles behind us which is hard to do if you're not on an Interstate.
We hit many thunderstorms on the road in Georgia and
Florida. This is sort of what they look like through the windshield.

First night was spent at Falling Waters State Park,
somewhere in the Florida Panhandle.

Falling Waters refers to the highest waterfall in Florida,
maybe 12 feet above sea level. Just kidding, it's actually more than 300
feet above sea level. I nearly reached for my oxygen mask!
The falls fall into a "sinkhole" and nobody know what
happens to it after that.

Next stop, Fontainebleau State Park on the north shore of
Lake Pontchatraine in Louisiana. We set up our screen room and got ready for
a leisurely evening of mosquito-free relaxation but were soon invaded by a
hoard of armadillos!
Actually, it was a mother and her four youngsters. Well, I
assume it was the mother. I suppose it could have been the father or the
babysitter. Anyway there was on that was bigger than the others, but just as
ugly.

In the morning we hiked over to the lake just to check it
out and see if we could catch any crawfish. It's a big lake but no crawfish
were in sight.
Crossing the Big Muddy is always a significant event when
crossing the US. This is where we crossed it in Louisiana. Lorri took the
photo from the passenger-side window in the middle of the bridge.

The approach to Houston, a big city...
