Park City, Fourth of July Weekend
After the Rally we went back to the condo in Park City for a long hot shower and a little resting up before heading back to San Diego. I was too late for the 5K morning run but we managed to make it to the excellent small town Fourth of July Parade down Main Street!
Looking up and down Main, eagerly awaiting the parade.
Lorri and I in front of our parade watching spot, the Wasatch Brewery.
An old fire truck, a yellow all-wheel-drive thing that would have been fun to have at the Sportsmobile Rally, and on the left the San Diego Chicken (?) in a VW Bug.
Utah Olympic Park
The next day we headed to Utah Olympic Park, scene of the Nordic Ski Jump, Freestyle Ski Jump, Bobsled, Luge and Skeleton events during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
During the summer the free-style jumpers train on plastic bristle ramps and jump into a large pool of water which, just before they land, is pumped up with bubbles to soften the impact. Here you can see a couple jumpers in the air.
There were a couple bobsleds around for photo ops and, if you were adventurous, you could ride a professionally driven wheeled bobsled down the Olympic Course. I tried to photo it as it flew by at 65 mph but my camera was too slow. Or maybe it was me...
These are the Nordic Ski jumps. They are steep and long and you can see them from miles away on I-80. I wish there was snow so I could try a jump...not! Remember that "agony of defeat" guy? That would be me.
