Week of April 20
|
Training Schedule |
Actual Training |
| Sunday: 4 or 5 mile easy run or non-impact cross train. Easter Sunday | Went to Easter Brunch with family and had a lot of champagne and Mexican food. Sorta put a crimp in my training plan. Does taking a nap count as non-impact cross-training? |
| Monday: 5 miles of hills!!!! | Ran an hour of hills: Sunset Ridge to Spring Canyon to Blue Cypress to Cypress Canyon to Scripps Poway Parkway to Pomerado Road, up that long hill back to Spring Canyon to Sunset Ridge. |
|
Tuesday: No more easy Tuesdays - 6 miles aerobic. |
Ran six at the Lake in 48 minutes, an aerobic pace for me. |
|
Wednesday: Five miles easy or x-train |
Ran six easy miles at the Lake |
|
Thursday: Five miles with 6 x 2 minute Fartleks |
Took off toward Las Vegas!!!! Stopped for the night and camped in the Mojave National Preserve, about 15 miles south of Baker, CA. |
|
Friday: OFF! |
Got up and ran through the desert on a sandy dirt road for about an hour. Excellent run, not a soul in sight! |
|
Saturday: 0 to 30 minute easy run in preparation for the La Jolla Half Marathon on Sunday |
Played golf!!! Used a cart. |
Week of April 13
|
Training Schedule |
Actual Training |
| Sunday: 3 or 4 mile easy run or non-impact cross train. | Ran in the Carlsbad 5000, advertised as the world's fastest 5K road race. My legs were a little tired from 18 miles on Saturday, but I ran it in 23:57. Lot's of people. Saw the finish of the women's invitational in which the winner tied the world record! |
| Monday: 7 miles of hills!!!! | Took today off since I worked sooo hard over the weekend! |
|
Tuesday: No more easy Tuesdays - 6 miles aerobic. |
Did an hour's worth of hills around the neighborhood |
|
Wednesday: Six miles easy or x-train |
Ran seven plus miles at the Lake including 30 minutes at a sub-8 minute mile pace. |
|
Thursday: 7 miles with 30 minute tempo run. |
That's exactly what I did, except I ran four miles at "tempo" pace which took a little less than 32 minutes. |
|
Friday: OFF! |
Off! Too much pizza and pasta, martinis and wine. |
|
Saturday: 10 miles. (Back down) |
Ten Miles in Carmel Valley at an easy pace on a nice day. The good part of the run was on the bike path parallel to Rte. 56 and the not as good part was on Carmel Valley Road from I-5 to PCH, too much traffic and too little running room. |
Week of April 6
|
Training Schedule |
Actual Training |
| Sunday: 3 or 4 mile easy run or non-impact cross train. | Cleaned out the rain gutters on the front of the house. Watched the Padres lose to the Dodgers in the 13th inning. |
| Monday: 7 miles of hills!!!! | Over an hour of hills! The hills are alive with the sound of footsteps! Yeah, my size 13 Brooks. |
|
Tuesday: No more easy Tuesdays - 6 miles aerobic. |
6 miles in 48 minutes at the Lake on yet another beautiful, sunny San Diego day. Sorry about the snow back east, y'all. |
|
Wednesday: Six miles easy or x-train |
Six miles easy at the lake accompanied by nearly-11-year-old niece Sarah on her bike. We talked about fractions as related to the quarter mile markers. (I always try to think of extremely exciting topics to discuss with the kids.) It was a nice run except that my Achilles tendon hurt. |
|
Thursday: Fartlek: 7 miles with 6 x 4 minute hard. |
Hiked the Iron Mountain/Ramona Overlook Trail. Achilles still hurting. |
|
Friday: OFF! |
Resting up for tomorrow. Achilles feeling a little better. Made an appointment to see a doctor next week. Pasta for dinner tonight. Must carbo load. Hmmm...should I have a beer too? |
|
Saturday: 18 mile "Train" run: Take the train from Solana Beach to Oceanside and run back! |
Great run along the coast! 18 miles flew by in only three hours. The weather turned out nice. There were plenty of aid stations and plenty of runners to run with and talk with. If you told me a few weeks ago that I could actually enjoy an 18 mile run, I would have told you that you were nuts. |
