San Diego County Fair, June 16, 2004. Since we moved to Encinitas, we now live about five or six miles from Del Mar Race Tack, or is that Del Mar Thoroughbred Club? Anyway, we had planned to ride our bicycles to the County Fair which is held on the Track grounds, exhibit halls and parking lots. At the last minute we decided that driving would be a better idea in case we bought something or won a huge stuffed animal on the midway. It had nothing to do with being lazy...
We got there when it opened at 10 AM and didn't leave until around five. What did we do all day you ask? We ate (tacos, French fries, tiny freshly fried donuts, etc) we drank (beer, water) we bought stuff (a sun shade that connects to the back of a beach chair, some thing with bungee cords that clamp to the edges of a tarp, jewelry, etc.), we walked around and saw stuff.
We took the sky ride:
We went in the exhibit halls:
We checked out the kiddy rides and novelty stands in the infield:
We saw the Budweiser Clydesdales "perform":
We learned that the dog's name is "Bud". Never would have guessed.
We saw some horsy stuff:
We saw some vintage cars including this 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird, which reminded me of my brother Bob's 1970 Roadrunner convertible of approximately the same color except the top of his was white.
We saw some finger-eating pigs:
We saw a milking cow:
We made a special point to see the camels from the world famous Oasis Camel Dairy in Ramona. Our friend Edith has a camel fixation and wants us to go to Ramona with her to visit the camels. We thought we'd check them at the Fair first. These particular camels are hump-challenged since they only had one. They were not smell-challenged or ugly-challenged because they had plenty of both.
(Un)fortunately we arrived at the camel area 1:30, so we missed the milking demo:
Well, we thought we missed it. I guess this guy couldn't wait until three:
Important Camel Dairy information:
Sorry, Edith, we couldn't find any place at the Fair that sold "luxurious" camel milk soap or we would have bought you a bar or two.
Lorri posing with the only cows that I didn't mind being around:
Oh, the places we went!
And the things we ate. We bought French fries here:
We didn't win anything in the Fun Zone:
All in all, we had a fine time at the Fair. The marine layer hung out most of the day so it was cool and cloudy, perfect fair-going weather.
