Kahana & Lahaina

Up Kahana & Lahaina Ka'anapali & Kapalua Off to Kauai! Tubing The Luau Ziplining Kauai Scenes

After getting up at the crack of dawn on October 5, 2004, we caught the Hawaiian Airlines flight to Honolulu then transferred for the 100 mile jump to Maui's Kahului Airport. There we were met by our good friends, Dru and Edith. After a quick stop at Costco for some supplies, mainly food and liquor, we headed to Kahana on the northwest coast. Thanks to Edith, we had an Oceanfront condo at a place called...

"The Sands of Kahana"    (www.sands-of-kahana.com/intro.html).

This is a view from our fourth floor balcony.

Here is Lorri, Edith and Dru on the beach in front of "The Sands"

Relaxing by the pool...

See those kayaks? We rented a couple of them and paddled around for a bit. The Island of Lanai can be seen in the background.

Maui Ocean Center

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast of Cheese McMayers (Dru's specialty) on croissants, we headed to the Maui Ocean Center (www.mauioceancenter.com) , an aquarium featuring the local undersea critters.

Here are some aquarium fish, a view out the back and Edith communicating with a sea turtle.

Lahaina

Then it was off to Lahaina for a little shopping and lunch. Lahaina is an old whaling port and former capital of the Hawaiian Islands. Today it is pretty much a tourist town with plenty of restaurants, shops, cruise ships, shops, stores, shops and a few historic buildings. Did I mentions shops?

A view of Front Street. We had lunch at "Cheeseburger in Paradise" then took some photos around the old Banyon tree in the town square. The view on the right is looking north across the bay toward Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Later that evening we had an excellent steak dinner back at Chez John (the condo where we stayed is actually owned by a mutual friend of ours named John with whom we will be in touch with soon to see if we can go back again!)
