New Orleans
March 12, 13 & 14
We got into New Orleans in a pouring rain and spent some time walking around and getting soaked. Later, after the rain stopped, we went back for dinner. This was a Monday night and the place was packed. Our dinner was on a balcony overlooking the action the action on Bourbon Street. The next morning was sunny and nice so we had brunch at the Inn of Two Sisters where I touched the “charm gate” (see photo below). It didn’t work on me. The street mime cut a colorful figure.
The highlight of our New Orleans visit was hooking up with our friends, Lex and Katie Williman. Lex is a partner in Hunsaker & Associates San Diego, our former place of employment. We enjoyed a day of good weather (finally) and took advantage of it by taking the St. Charles Street Streetcar out to the Garden District to check on the azaleas and big houses. Sure enough, the azaleas were blooming and the big houses were still big.
Here are some photos from that excursion.

Later we were joined for cocktails by Lynn & Lou Lightfoot and Ann & Tim Gunter. Lou and Ann were, like Lex, in town attending the American Planning Association convention. The main activity at this convention as far as I can tell is inspecting the layout of the French Quarter while stopping in as many bars and restaurants as possible for libations and refreshments. These activities fit right in with what Lorri and I were there for, so we spent the evening with them starting at Patout’s for crawdads and raw oysters, then to Pat O’Brien’s for a Hurricane or two, on to Krazy Korner for some ear-splitting music and then just walking the streets, sipping beer, buying souvenirs and getting our mojo blessed (our something like that) by the “Prince of Love”. He promised us all good sex for a year for only $3 apiece! Not a bad bargain!
