From Padre Island we headed up the coast to Galveston where we spent Friday night at the Galveston Island State Park Campground. The wind was still blowing and the sun was having trouble burning off the clouds.
The next day we drove in to Galveston itself and did some exploring. There are a lot of stately mansions in Galveston and we toured one of them, the Moody Mansion pictured with Lorri below. It is spring break time in Texas and Galveston Island is a popular destination. We were lucky to find a room on the beach. The view from the room is pictured below.
The next day we continued driving up the coastal roads and enjoyed a couple ferry rides, one from Galveston Island to Bolivar Peninsula and the other from some unknown place to another. It always seems kind of fun to drive onto a boat and go floating across a body of water sitting in your own vehicle. The first two below are the Galveston Island to Bolivar Peninsula, the other is the smaller ferry from and to nowhere, as far as I could tell.
We passed this abandoned lighthouse on Bolivar Peninsula
These were taken looking out the front window at about 60 mph. They’re pretty typical of the scenery in the bayou country of Louisiana. We spent Sunday night at an RV Park outside of New Iberia, LA, and drove into New Orleans on Monday, but that’s another story. Below is me cooking spaghetti at the RV park.
