Denver!
At long last we were able to arrange a trip to Denver to visit with our niece Sara and her fiancé Dustin!
Thursday, Oct 1

We flew out of Carlsbad Airport which is only a few miles from our house. It's a very small airport!

This is how you board your flight and this is the largest aircraft that can land here.

Getting ready to climb the ramp. United flies directly from Carlsbad to Denver.

We made it to Denver and hopped on the train at the airport which goes directly to Union Station downtown.

Lynn, Lorri's sister (and Sara's mother!) joined us for the weekend.

Union Station! Now all we had to do was find Sara!

We did find her and Dustin and had a nice pizza dinner at this place which was a couple blocks from the Warwick Hotel, our home for the weekend.
Friday, Oct 2
We heard that "First Friday" in the River North (RiNo) Art District was the place to be for open-house art studios, food and drink, and so on.

It wasn't almost Heaven, but it was fun. Sort of.

We ended up here for an attitude adjustment after finding that things weren't as Happening as we had been led to believe. (Never trust AI!)

But there were a lot of murals around the area and Denver Public Market was very nice.

Inside the market

A mural and Lorri and Lynn

We had our fill of murals and ended up at the train station so we jumped on it and went back to Union Station and the downtown area. LoDo? Lower Downtown? I don't know. All the neighborhoods in Denver seem to have a name.

This is inside Union Station - very nice architecture

Looking the other way.

My drink at the bar at Thirsty Lion

Outside the TL

We left the TL and walked down pedestrian-friendly 16th street to Larimer Square

Lots of shops and restaurants here

Another view of Larimer Square

We met up with Sara and Dustin later at Fish N Beer

Don't know why my photo taking has been so lame but I did get a couple of Lynn and Sara...

...and my fish!
Saturday, October 3

Lorri and I decided to check out the "Art District on Santa Fe" on Saturday morning, We walked by the state capital and kept walking!

We crossed the Colorado Front Range Trail at 11th and walked around the Art District for a while without seeing anything of much interest.

Thankfully, Sara, Dustin and Lynn rescued us and we drove to Lucile's, a New Orleans style eatery in a nice casual setting.

Bloody Mary's to the rescue!

My shrimp and grits, with a beignet and a biscuit in the background.

A little later, we drove out to Golden to this excellent brewery!

Golden is closer to Denver that I thought! This was taken from New Terrain with my iPhone telephoto mode looking back at the downtown area.

Cheers for beers!

It was a good stop with good beers!
Next stop: Washington Avenue, mid-town Golden, CO

A Colorado Buffalo

Adolf Coors, patron saint of Golden and maybe all of Colorado!

Cheers from Golden!

Sunday, Jacktober 4th!

We started at Dairy Block which has no cows but lots of shops and foodie places

It was a great dinner and a great weekend! Great to be with Lynn, Sara, Dustin and Lorri in Denver for my milestone birthday! (They are all milestones ay my age!)
October 5th, Monday

Sadly, it was time to leave Denver. This is the sunrise from our hotel window.

Waiting for our plane

Our plane.
We left the giant Denver airport for the tiny Carlsbad airport and made it home on time!
Thank you Sara and Dustin for making our trip to Denver so enjoyable and making my birthday weekend very special!!!
