The road to Dublin goes through Cork, well for us it did. We were on a mission to find the burial place of Kelly's great-grandfather, Gerald Walsh.

DSCN1372.jpg (335377 bytes)  DSCN1373.jpg (392995 bytes)  DSCN1377.jpg (298486 bytes)  DSCN1378.jpg (359480 bytes)

Unfortunately we never found Gerald but we found plenty of others Walshes. We don't know if any of them were related to Gerald but we , Greg & I, were not taking any chances. We had a bottle of single-malt Irish Whiskey with which we toasted most of the Walshes we came across, just to be safe. We gave the remainder of the bottle to the caretaker of the cemetery who really hustled trying to find the correct Walsh. There wasn't a whole lot left.

The road to Dublin turned out to be a nice limited access toll road, so we got there in good time.

DSCN1389.jpg (205823 bytes)  DSCN1390.jpg (236743 bytes)  DSCN1393.jpg (246528 bytes)  DSCN1396.jpg (216979 bytes)

We turned the car in, took a cab to our B&B and then, guess what?!! We needed our Guinness fix so we walked around the corner to O'Brien's.

DSCN1398.jpg (210968 bytes)  DSCN1401.jpg (254592 bytes)  DSCN1402.jpg (341253 bytes)  DSCN1403.jpg (231115 bytes)

We grabbed a bite to eat and then went looking for some music, and maybe some more Guinness.

DSCN1405.jpg (283585 bytes)  DSCN1407.jpg (209848 bytes)  DSCN1408.jpg (290999 bytes)  DSCN1409.jpg (239279 bytes)

We found both at O'Donoghue's, not far from where we were staying. This is the famous bar where the Dubliners got their start.

DSCN1410.jpg (310173 bytes)  DSCN1414.jpg (234297 bytes)  DSCN1416.jpg (225137 bytes)  DSCN1420.jpg (203126 bytes)

The music was great and we stayed quite a while.

DSCN1422.jpg (194181 bytes)  DSCN1423.jpg (194388 bytes)  DSCN1425.jpg (270710 bytes)  DSCN1426.jpg (261699 bytes)

They had a collection of various bills on the wall behind the bar so I gave them one of my million dollar "stimulus" bills with Obama on the front and Fantasy Land on the back.

DSCN1430.jpg (179578 bytes)  DSCN1431.jpg (246021 bytes)  DSCN1432.jpg (243081 bytes)  DSCN1433.jpg (203251 bytes)

We reluctantly left O'D's and headed up Grafton Street, a nice pedestrian thoroughfare lined with high-end shops and restaurants.

DSCN1434.jpg (261327 bytes)  DSCN1436.jpg (245595 bytes)  DSCN1437.jpg (279210 bytes)  DSCN1438.jpg (180892 bytes)

We stopped to say hello to Molly Malone who wheels her wheel barrow through streets broad and narrow... actually she doesn't get around much anymore.

DSCN1441.jpg (217664 bytes)  DSCN1442.jpg (176990 bytes)  DSCN1445.jpg (250003 bytes)

Ha' Penny Inn, Ha' Penny Bridge...

DSCN1448.jpg (179484 bytes)  DSCN1451.jpg (240933 bytes)  DSCN1455.jpg (201928 bytes)  DSCN1456.jpg (198545 bytes)

We worked (drank) our way to the Temple Bar area and the Temple Bar itself where we

it looks like we opted for gin & tonic and wine. What, no Guinness?

DSCN1470.jpg (263767 bytes)  DSCN1471.jpg (297081 bytes)  DSCN1472.jpg (258301 bytes)  DSCN1474.jpg (123687 bytes)

Moving on, we passed the Why Go Bald animated sign (video coming soon)

DSCN1477.jpg (196833 bytes)  DSCN1480.jpg (249859 bytes)  DSCN1481.jpg (238201 bytes)

and made our way to Stag's Head

DSCN1485.jpg (218163 bytes)  DSCN1482.jpg (196956 bytes)

where we found some good music and returned to our staple, Guinness.

Another beautiful day! We walked through St. Stephen's Green on our way to Trinity College.

DSCN1496.jpg (356189 bytes)  DSCN1499.jpg (407652 bytes)  DSCN1503.jpg (279656 bytes)  DSCN1507.jpg (159901 bytes)

Grafton Street again where we were entertained by the big bubbly guy and

DSCN1509.jpg (224211 bytes)  DSCN1510.jpg (199203 bytes)  DSCN1511.jpg (181602 bytes)

the marionette guy, who was very good. The little guy was very cute, almost like a comic mime.

DSCN1512.jpg (225169 bytes)  DSCN1514.jpg (181975 bytes)  DSCN1515.jpg (226513 bytes)

We were too early to see the Book of Kells, so we just sort of walked around.

DSCN1521.jpg (127562 bytes)  DSCN1524.jpg (245374 bytes)  DSCN1525.jpg (217487 bytes)  DSCN1528.jpg (259248 bytes)

Next we walked by Dublin Castle and Christ Church Cathedral, eventually ending up at...

DSCN1529.jpg (307538 bytes)  DSCN1532.jpg (212025 bytes)  DSCN1536.jpg (162037 bytes)  DSCN1537.jpg (299736 bytes)

Guinness!

  DSCN1539.jpg (200965 bytes)  DSCN1541 - Copy.jpg (192159 bytes)  DSCN1542.jpg (225821 bytes)

We had a date to meet Lorri's long lost Irish cousin back at O'Donoghue's, where some of the same musicians were playing again today! Ciarin turned out to be a really nice guy, though slightly hung-over from a late Saturday night.

DSCN1545 - Copy.jpg (313152 bytes)  DSCN1546.jpg (229928 bytes)

He was a good sport though and offered to drive us to Leo Burdock's for famous fish & chips which were really good and which we ate bellied up to a low wall across the street.

DSCN1547.jpg (242905 bytes)  DSCN1548 - Copy.jpg (240215 bytes)  DSCN1549 - Copy.jpg (201811 bytes)  DSCN1552.jpg (224168 bytes)

Next, he taxied us to the Jamieson Distillery which would have been too far to walk. We sampled some product, then headed back to town.

DSCN1554.jpg (172786 bytes)  DSCN1556.jpg (223647 bytes)  DSCN1558.jpg (162187 bytes)

We had dinner at Sussex, which is the restaurant upstairs from O'Brien's where we had beers the day before. Dublin was great, Ireland was great, London was great and Greg & Kelly were great. But tomorrow we would part ways, G&K going back to London and then home, while Lorri and I would fly to Paris for a week in the City of Light!
