Saturday, August 1, Evers, Escondido!

It was BBQ Party time at Chez Evers! We were joined by Steve's old
friend Jeff and his girlfriend Tracey, as well as Lorri's parents,
Cousin Chris (Steve's sister's kid), Ashley's boyfriend Gregg and let's
see... that's about it.

And, oh yeah, cousin Nick showed up later.

Oops! I forgot Steve's dad Don and his wife Mary Ann.

One of the highlights was launching water balloons down the street
with the amazing water balloon launcher.

It worked great except for one time when an errant balloon smashed
into the side of Steve's neighbor's freshly detailed customized pickup
truck. It made a very loud noise but apparently the neighbor didn't hear
it. Or else he DID hear it and is planning appropriate retaliation! I
hope I'm not there for that.
Sunday, beach music concert at Moonlight Beach.

Lorri and I drove home Saturday night while the kids spent the night
with the Evers family.

It was a nice relaxing afternoon and gave everyone time to recover
from the previous day's festivities.

Monday, downtown San Diego!
We took the 11:20 Coaster from Encinitas and then a cab directly from
Santa Fe Depot to Balboa Park where Kellen Winslow, among others, was
holding a press conference announcing an upcoming college football game.

We took a seat in the front row and Mr. Winslow took a seat a couple
seats away. He noticed Jakes shoes (check them out in the full length
photo) and complimented Jake on them. As soon as that happened, Jake
handed him the Charger's hat and Sharpie we had brought should such an
opportunity arise. KW happily signed it and a little later, after the
speeches were over but before he went to talk with reporters, he asked
Jake about his football career and posed for this photo. He seemed like
a truly nice guy.

Here are some photos of parts of the Kellen Winslow display at the
San Diego Hall of Champions.

In front of the Hall of Champions.

We had a sandwich near the botanical building and koi pond and then
went to the Natural History Museum to see the "Body Worlds" display of
real human bodies!

Padres Game

We took a cab from Balboa Park down to the Gaslamp District where we
did a little shopping and eating before heading over to Petco Park.

The Padres, behind the pitching of rookie Mat Latos, beat the Atlanta
Braves 4-2.

Tuesday was another beach day. This is my only photo: Jake, Sara, Mal
and Sara's friend Mary.

Wednesday, August 5, Departure Day. We
walked to the Village and had Gelato from Chuao's for breakfast. What
the heck?

We dropped them off at the airport a little later and immediately
went to the nearest bar to celebrate! No, just kidding. It was sad to
see them go. We had a great time with Jake & Mal. They're good kids and
fun to be around. We can't wait until next year!
