Labor Day Weekend! Finally! Edna and Mike made it to San Diego! After
years of planning and un-planning trips to come and see us, my brother
Bob's daughter and her husband Mike made the journey from the Cheese
Steak capital of the world to America's Finest City (and Fish Taco
capital of the world).

We had a fine time and E&M saw a lot of the town in a short four
days. Friday was a beach day and in the evening we made the rounds of a
few local restaurants "appetizer hopping". Some people call it
bar-hopping and we may have had a beverage or two but "appetizer
hopping" sounds slightly more refined. I think.

On Saturday, we pointed out the way to the Coaster station and the
kids went to The SD Zoo and cruised the Gaslamp District but made it
home in time for a bbq dinner of prosciutto-wrapped shrimp, without the
prosciutto, which somebody forgot.

On Sunday, we drove down to Coronado Island (which is not really an
island) and walked around a little.

You get a great view of downtown San Diego from one side of Coronado
and of Point Loma and the Pacific Ocean on the other.

Some views of the Bay and the City and the bridge that gets you
there.

Coronado is home to the Hotel Del Coronado, built in the late 1800's
and former playground to the rich and famous.

Presidents have slept here, movies have been filmed here and we had a
beer here!

Then it was up the coast to La Jolla where we hit the perfect storm
(of people). Perfect beach weather, big three day holiday weekend, calm,
clear and warm ocean water and a band performing. I have never seen so
many people on the beach, in the water, in the park, on the sidewalks,
well, you get the picture. If not, look at the pictures!

everywhere you looked there were sun-bathers, swimmers, divers,
cliff-jumpers, snorkelers, skin divers, scuba divers, kayakers & canoers,
not to mention a few stinky harbor seals hanging about the rocks.

Just look at all those people!

And there we are. We stopped in the Hotel Valencia but they were
setting up for a wedding or something.
We stopped at Torrey Pines Golf Course to see if Tiger was there but he
wasn't.

Back on the beach in Encinitas.

A couple of lonesome old birds.

It was low tide - perfect for a stroll.

On Monday, E&M went to meet some friends, former neighbors who had the
good sense to move here recently, and spent the afternoon seeing more of
our lovely town. Meanwhile we put the ribs on the Barby and hung out on
our back patio.
We had a great time with Edna and Mike! They FINALLY made it out here!
The weekend went by in a flash and before we knew it, it was Tuesday
morning and we were taking them back to the airport.
