Monday, August 4 to Thursday, August 7, were spent at the delightful Moonlight Beach Motel, just a hop, skip and jump from Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, a few miles up the coast from San Diego. The motel is sort of 50's-ish but it's clean, it's close and it's cheap (sort of).

Here is what the front looks like. Or maybe this is the back. We had two rooms with nice decks and ocean views.

This was our beach spot on Wednesday, just atop the little dune and high enough to spot the kids in the water over the heads of the people on the beach below.

Jake got a skim board and quickly became a proficient performer. Of course every skim boarder takes a spill now and then.

Wednesday evening the kids got to go out to dinner with Katie Thompson, Ashley's and Sara's cousin, who was kind enough to drop by for the occasion.

The adults headed out for a night on the town at about the same time. Here we all are just before we left. On the right is inside the Martini Ranch. We forgot to take more photos that night.
