Sedona & More

Home Las Vegas Grand Canyon Sedona & More

After three nights camping at the Grand Canyon we decided to head back toward San Diego. We drove southerly through Flagstaff then down Oak Canyon on Rte 89A to the scenic little tourist town of Sedona where we booked a room at luxurious Matterhorn Motel.

These were taken from the balcony of our room. The red rock formations of the surrounding mountains heave been dubbed "Snoopy", "Coffee Pot", "Cathedral" and stuff like that because, allegedly, that's what they look like. See if you can see Snoopy in the photo on the left. I found that robot guy from Star Wars in the photo on the the right. I also noticed that the clouds looked like puffy marshmallows and cotton balls. Perhaps I spent a little too much time in Sedona.

From Sedona we headed south to the old mining town of Jerome, part of which (the part that hasn't fallen down, burned down or slid down the slope) is pictured above.

L to R: Lorri in front of Jerome State Historical Park; the English Kitchen (founded by a Chinese gentleman in the 1890's) where we ate lunch; a couple motorcycles in front of one of the zillion little gift stores in Jerome.

After the excitement of Jerome we drove down to the thriving metropolis of Quartzsite, AZ, which has a population of a million people during January and February for the gem and mineral trade shows. Unfortunately the population in May is slightly less, maybe around 12, and we couldn't find any of them so we kept going down US 95 toward Yuma and ended up at Martinez Lake which is about thirty miles north of Yuma on the Colorado River. Here is where we camped on our last night before heading home.

On the left is my shadow and the van; on the right is Lorri and the van.

Here I am getting ready to cook up another gourmet campground dinner.

That's it! See you later.
