Kansas, Colorado & Utah Leaving Nashville, we headed northwest toward St. Louis where we stayed a couple days with Lorri's parents; then, on the road again. We found yet another great state park in which to camp. This one was called Millford SP in Kansas. Our site was right on a lake and nice and private. The photos below show our camp spot, Lorri swimming in the lake and the view of the sunset from our spot. Millford State Park, Kansas The next day we drove over 600 miles across Kansas and eastern Colorado and ended up in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, near Golden, Colorado. The next morning we visited nearby Black Hawk, an old mining town turned gambling mecca. There, while sipping a morning bloody mary, we hit a progressive aces jackpot playing video poker, cashed out and took off. The Streets of Black Hawk, Colorado We ended up in Vail, which is right off I-70, for our 15th wedding anniversary on July 13th. There are no shortages of good restaurants or places to spend money in Vail, no matter what time of year. We quickly went through our winnings from Black Hawk, but we had a great time. We stayed in a condo in the village, so we could walk everywhere and have a drink at each bar and restaurant. Below is I-70 with the Copper Mountain ski area in the background and Lorri at Vail. I-70 and Vail On into Utah we pushed. We were starting to get anxious to get home but we did manage to visit two great National Parks. We camped in Bryce and spent a day there. The photos below show the red rock formations called "hoodoos". The deer was in the campground grazing and the tunnel was on the road in toward the park. Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah |
