Road Trip 10 - The Pacific Northwest

Seattle to McMinnville
We decided to take a trip to the Washington/Oregon Coast on the way to our rental cabin in McMinnville.
Monday, September 9
Just north on the mouth of the Columbia River is a combined State and National Park which includes two lighthouses, a Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center as well as a fairly extensive campground.

The campground was a few yards from the beach

The results of preemptive surgery on Padre. His arm was hanging on by a, um, little green piece of rubber? Amputation was our only alternative.

Lots of driftwood on the Oregon Coast

It was a little chilly and breezy

More driftwood

Camera on a timer

Previous visitors constructed all sorts of little structures with the driftwood

Another driftwood sculpture

Anybody know what this is?

I think Druids left this one

Good light as the sun goes down

Tuesday, September 10

We walked to the Interpretive Center

Looking west near where the Columbia River emptied into the Pacific Ocean

We were standing on the edge of the continent

It was named Cape Disappointment before Lewis & Clark got there

A view of the Cape Disappointment light from the Interpretive Center

Dead Man's Cove

Close-up of the Cape D Light

This is the Interpretive Center taken from the lighthouse. The fog rolled in very quickly

The fog didn't reach the light

It stayed low over the ocean and bay

We heard fog horns all night long. This was taken on the Rte 101 bridge over the Columbia River

The pilings are remnants of a logging operation

This is the dugout canoe in the woods. Huh?
Seaside, Oregon

Parts of the drive along the Oregon Coast were spectacular

My lame photos don't do it justice.

We were way high up looking almost straight down.

Our destination:

Say Cheese!

Baby Loaf?

Lots of cheese, no mice

What did we get at the Tillamook Cheese factory? Why ice cream, of course!
