McMinnville and the Willamette Valley
Wednesday, September 11
This was our home for the week and what a great place it was!

The Murphy bed

The Kitchen

The loft

The Adirondack chairs and the front porch

A view of the vineyard looking toward the barn and stables. No horses now but the previous owners raised Tennessee Walkers

The new owners raise clone 777 Pinot Noir, a much better choice, in my opinion

The vines

Our house

There was a deck surrounding the huge pine tree in the middle of the vineyard, We had cocktails there.

The barn now gets used for the occasional wedding

The old stalls

Another vies of "our house"
Once we were settled it was off to McMinnville, about six miles from here

We walked up and down 3rd Street and stopped at GVB for a beer tasting

Good stuff.

We had dinner here on Friday night

We never did figure out why Ben Franklin was in McMinnville

But there he was.

The Willamette Valley Vineyards tasting room

It was in town

We had lunch here at La Rambla

Tapas and wine!

Later we drove to the Evergreen Aeronautical Museum just outside of town

We had to because that's where the Spruce Goose it!

What do you know? Is that Howard Hughes? Or Leonardo DiCaprio?

Has to be Howard Hughes...

And is that Orville or Wilber?

The magic bus

Wait, that's not an airplane.

But that is

Self-portrait in a nose cone

Here they are again!

And here we are again. The Anthony Dell tasting room.

Typical Willamette Valley Scenery

First tasting of the day

We met this couple and their daughter because they drove up the long driveway behind us and noticed the "PSU" tags and plate frame on the van. Turns out the daughter is a PSU alumna living in Portland. The parents were visiting from Long Island, NY.

Lots of vines at Sokol Blosser

We enjoyed tasting at Domaine Drouhin and learning about how the operation is associated with Maison Joseph Drouhin in Burgundy.

Here is what we learned:

Too bad we had a little haze.

We did not complain, though, when we considered the generally great weather we had.

Around the corner from Drouhin was White Rose Estate

Very interesting architecture

It was all dark and cozy inside

There was couple who, along with a guide, were visiting the wineries on horseback.

Durant

We did a tasting and then decided it was time for lunch

We bought a bottle of their delicious Pinot Gris

and sat out front with our picnic lunch

Transporting our purchases

This is the fridge in the van. No need to worry about the wine getting to warm in a hot vehicle!

They press olive oil here!
