The Madonna Inn

The Madonna Inn is a place that you must see in person to appreciate, although you can check out their website www.madonnainn.com to get an idea of what's up. Each room has a different theme: The Caveman Room, Fabulous Fifties, Barrel of Fun, etc. As the place has kind of a Bavarian feel to it, we chose the Matterhorn Room which was nicely decorated in ice blue, pale blue and other blue with a painting of the Matterhorn on the wall and a view of a mini-Matterhorn out the window (see below). Like many rooms at the Inn, it also boasted an authentic rock shower enclosure.

Next Stop: San Simeon State Beach

Tearing ourselves away from the Madonna Inn, we headed toward San Simeon where the Hearst Castle is located. Rather than check out the Castle again, we thought our spare time would be better spent checking out a few wineries in the Paso Robles area. We stopped by Doce Robles, Grey Wolf and Bonny Doon, tasting and stocking up for the rest of the trip. Time (and money) well spent, I thought. Here are some photos from San Simeon State Beach where in the campground you can take a hot shower for two quarters.
