Lake Hodges - South Side
Stork Scores Hat Trick! July 9, 2001
Lake Hodges Picnic - GCEF6
Steven's Cache - GCEBE
Number One Son - GCEA6
Two of these were set on July 3rd and the other July 5th, today is the 9th and I had never been hiking on the south side of Lake Hodges. It seemed like a good time for a multiple Cache day! So I parked near the tennis courts and started the attack.
This 300kb image shows my GPS track and profile. The hike was about 6.9 miles and fairly easy, despite what the profile looks like. It's exaggerated.
Looking across the street from the parking area at the trailhead.
First stop, Lake Hodges Picnic Cache. The coordinates took me right to it and there it was, under a bush near a big old oak tree. Turning around, I took the middle photo and then I put the camera on a rock to take a photo of me under the big old oak tree.
On the left is an actual waterfall with real water flowing in July in Southern California! I know that to those of you who lives where it rains, this does not seem very impressive, but having lived in SoCal for a few years (OK. a lot of years), seeing running water in a stream was an unusual sight in the summer. The photo on the right was taken looking north from an overlook on the trail near Steven's Cache.
There I am with Steven's Cache and the www.wheresgeorge.com dollar that was stashed inside the Picnic Cache. I will be placing George in another cache soon. On the right is a view of the Lake and Bernardo Mountain to the north from Steven's Cache.
Next stop, Number One Son. That's it on the left with George and the log book. Next is me with the cache and the log book. Next is looking westerly and next is looking northeasterly from the cache. It was a good day, a great hike and my first Geocaching hat trick!
