Gaudí's masterpiece

Strange as it may look, it is awe-inspiring!

Although this scale model is not awe-inspiring and it is difficult to photograph.

Is it just me or does this Nativity scene look a little like Jaws?

Construction is scheduled to finish in 2026, more than a hundred years after it started. Sounds like a CalTrans project. (no offense to my CalTrans friends)

The ox and lamb...wait, is that a lamb?

The three wise men

One wise woman

It's the interior that gets me. Unlike any cathedral or church I've ever been in, yet similar somehow. Different yet familiar. Hard to explain. No these are not complete sentences.

Organic architecture?

What inspired this guy?

The traditional medium of stained glass somehow works here

I see things in the photo that I didn't notice in person

Anyway, it's an awesome structure

Much of the sculptural work is post-Gaudí, like this, by Josep Maria Subirachs. The guy on the lower left is supposed to have Gaudí's face.

This wavy roof feature can be seen echoed in places like the Madrid Airport Terminal 4, the Mercat Santa Caterina, and many other places.

The downstairs workshop where components are still being designed

Read about this below, the guy was a genius.

Don't you just love the theory of catenary inversion? What about hyperbolic paraboloid surfaces?

The man

OK, I've beaten Gaudí to death. Actually he got ran over by a trolley.

This is another Gaudí structure. Fits right in, doesn't it. I think Gaudí and Dr, Zeuss would have been great friends if they had been contemporaries. I would like to have seen them design a zoo, maybe, or the new Charger's Stadium downtown.
