Tarragona

Tarragona and Cambrils are cities along the Mediterranean Coast, a few miles from our Villa.

Lorri and I took a day trip to check them out.

We had heard there were Roman ruins in Tarragona but were surprised at the extent and how well-preserved they were. This is part of the "circus", the racing venue.

Part of the Circus also

Modern buildings sit atop Roman era foundations in many places

Amazing!

See the sign for Pizza? That's the Roman influence.

Never figured out who this dude is. Augustus?

Romulus, Remus and their mom.

This vault "continues inside the houses on the eastern side of Santa Ana Street". That I would like to see.

Houses, buildings, built on Roman foundations.

Lorri and Jack were here.

Clouds? What clouds?

Looking down from the castle

One end of the Circus. See below.

There was a lot of Roman activity here.

Sorry for the picture of a picture

The little coliseum

Was the sea that close when it was constructed?

Impressive.

Looks like at some point the structure was cannibalized to build a Christian church on the site.

Still, a lot survives

The main entry?

Beautiful

Some of the previous photos were taken from up there

Back to the car. It was parked underneath this plaza.
