Falset and Porrera
These photos are from two different days

Tuesday morning market, Falset

Falset is the "capital" of the Montsant wine area, just off N420, about 18 kilometers west of our Villa

THE market wasn't very big and once you left the main square, there wasn't a lot going on

We walked a bit along the little streets

Not much was going on Tuesday morning

Some interesting architecture...

Talking about old habits...they still call this the Jewish Quarter even though the Jewish community was expelled in 1492!

"Town of Falset 1886"

And so we stopped for bocadillos and beer. What's with my hair?

AT the Hollywood Cafe

Which was right next door to the AJ Restaurant.

This is our rental Leon in front of the villa getting ready for our excursion to Porrera

Many of the vines are grown on terraces. Before phyloxera there was much more land under cultivation and the remains of old terraces are visible all over Montsant and Priorat

Porrera

Apparently there is a walking route around Porrera that takes you past fourteen sundials from the 19th century

That is what we were looking for. This is what we found.

It's a pretty little town but where are the sundials?

We climbed to the top

We looked

We walked back down

We went to the church

We knocked on doors. No, not really.

The we found one! If there are 13 more, they are well hidden.

So, after an exhausting sundial search, we were in dire need of sustenance.

Ahhhh. Don't need a sundial to know when it's Miller time. Actually it was Estrella time.

"El Rebost" = "The Pantry" in Catalan

One of two bridges provides access to the main part of town

A view of the town from the south flank

The church - "Lady of the Stream"

Across the stream and up a hill is the church of San Antón

Small and isolated, why is it there? Why would one attend church at San Antón when Mare de Deu de la Riera is right in town?

For the view?

1885? This is a new building in these parts.

Great view of Porrera and terraced vines

...and another. The Montsant and Priorat are dotted with ancient towns like this. We visited another on Friday, Siurana, even more picturesque.
