Wine Tour, Monday

Our Peugeot Van

Sit still!

Whizzing by a hill town

First stop, Ficaria Vins with owner/winemaker Jaume, on the left, and our tour guide Josep.

the town of La Fuguera

Hiking up to the viewpoint

Jaume explains, Josep translates

La Figuera

On up we go...

Worth the walk - overlooking most of the Priorat DOQ.

Jaume telling us what we were looking at

Here's looking at us!

Back in town at the winery

stainless

Learning from Jaume. He didn't speak much English but he knew how to get his point across

Fermenting in clay pots

Checking the process

Oops, a stem.

And over there we have...

Time to taste

100% Grenache. That would be the Catalan spelling.

12 months in French oak?

Èlia, Jaume's 21-year-old daughter

Montsant is the wine-producing area that nearly surrounds the Priorat area.

All Jaume's wines were excellent!

We need some for our next Grenache-a-rama!

Soon it was time for lunch

We had a nice fixed menu lunch paired with some excellent wines.

A couple Grenache-based blends

I had the sausage app

Deconstructed and rearranged

Lamb for the main course

It was a quiet and scenic place

Greg and Skip found a couple old barber chairs to relax on.

Our server girl - she hustled!

Our ride

For a break in the action after lunch, we stopped at a monetary which is undergoing excavation and renovation. It's closed to visitors on Mondays but we peeked over the fence.

Parts of it looked ancient

It would be nice to have a time machine and see what these places looked like 500 years ago.

On up we go

Beautiful countryside

Not Grenache but what?

They were very sweet.

Ready for harvest

We stopped next for an olive oil tasting but the little plaza was shared with Scala Dei Winery, so we checked that out too.

We know the Catalan colors on the right. What is on the left? Scala Dei? Ladder to god? Stairway to heaven?

"The Oil Mill"

Olive oil tasting

Our final stop was a tour and tasting at Mas Doix Winery with our wonderful host Isabella

In the background is the third generation winemaker for Mas Doix, a small family operation.

Cleaning the equipment.

New French oak

Down to some tasting

Great wines and a great day!
